Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you open the next chapter.
Which books can I open?
ReadVeranda reads DRM-free EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 files, including illustrated and fixed-layout books. PDF documents are supported with page navigation, zoom, text search, bookmarks, and passage notes. Scanned PDFs remain readable without OCR. MOBI and other formats are not supported. Original book files are preserved.
Do my books ever leave my device?
Your EPUBs and PDFs are processed in your browser. There are no book uploads, accounts, or analytics. Books, reading positions, and annotations stay in this browser; they do not sync between devices.
Will ReadVeranda remember where I stopped?
Yes. Your library, reading position, bookmarks, highlights, and notes are saved in this browser. Appearance preferences are saved locally too. Browser storage can be cleared or evicted, so keep your original files and download a library backup.
Can I take my notes and library with me?
Export notes and highlights as Markdown or plain text from the reader. Backup & restore in My library exports original EPUBs and PDFs, covers, metadata, collections, progress, annotations, and preferences in a ReadVeranda ZIP backup.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The reader adapts to phones and tablets, with chapter and settings drawers. Use the same browser to return to your local library. Visit while connected and wait until App & offline says Ready for offline reading. The cached app can then reopen locally saved EPUBs and PDFs without a connection. Installation is optional; browser storage still needs backups.
Does changing the interface language translate my book?
No. English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese apply to the application controls and help pages. Your original text, titles, chapter names and personal notes remain unchanged. You can switch language from the homepage or reader settings without reopening the active book.
Can ReadVeranda convert MOBI, AZW3, FB2 or CBZ files?
No. The current reader accepts EPUB and PDF. It does not convert formats, remove DRM, open an ACSM license as a book or offer a catalogue of commercial ebooks. Choose a supported file you are authorized to read. The formats guide explains the difference between a reading format and a delivery or license file.
Why does a PDF have no search results?
A scan can look readable while containing only page images. Search and passage selection need an extractable text layer and appropriate document permissions. ReadVeranda has no OCR tool. You can still navigate readable scanned pages and save page bookmarks.
