Privacy and your books

Your files are processed locally. This page separates the application’s current behavior from possible future advertising.

Everything happens on your device

ReadVeranda processes EPUB and PDF files in your browser. Your books, their contents, and your reading history are never uploaded. There are no accounts, analytics, or advertising trackers.

A library in your browser

Original books, editable metadata, covers, collections, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, and personal notes are stored locally using IndexedDB. Reading preferences are stored in localStorage. Metadata and cover edits leave the original file unchanged. Storage belongs to the browser and origin you use; books do not automatically appear on other devices.

Reading without a connection

After App & offline confirms readiness, a service worker keeps the application, local fonts, icons, and reader dependencies available offline. Imported books stay in IndexedDB and are not copied into the application cache. Updates wait for your approval and save pending reading progress and notes before reloading. Public sample previews may need a connection. Installation does not synchronize devices or make browser storage permanent.

Keep a backup

Clearing site data, uninstalling your browser, or browser storage eviction can remove your library. Private browsing may discard it after the session. Use Backup & restore in My library to download your original files, edited details, collections, positions, bookmarks, highlights, notes, and reader preferences. You can also export notes and selected passages as Markdown or plain text from the reader. You can export the complete library or selected books, then review a backup before restoring. Backups contain your private reading data; store them somewhere safe.

Book content is treated with care

ReadVeranda blocks EPUB scripts, forms, embedded frames, and external book links, sanitizes EPUB markup, and uses a Content Security Policy. PDFs render locally through PDF.js without a scripting manager or interactive forms. PDF permissions are respected, and document passwords are never saved. Images and fonts included in your EPUB are supported; remotely hosted resources are blocked. DRM-protected EPUBs and scripted document actions are not supported. Password-protected PDFs can be opened with their password.

The small amount of ordinary web traffic

Your browser downloads the app from its host. The included Alice in Wonderland sample is served with the app. Your hosting provider may keep ordinary access logs; ReadVeranda itself does not record your reading activity.

Contacting us

If you choose to email support, your email address and whatever you include are sent through your email provider to the support mailbox. This is separate from reading a book. Avoid sending private documents, passwords or unnecessary personal information.

Advertising is not enabled

This build contains no AdSense advertising script and sets no advertising or analytics cookies through ReadVeranda. The library, EPUB/PDF reader and offline reading are kept ad-free. A publisher verification tag or ads.txt record, when configured, does not itself display advertisements.

If public-page advertising is introduced later, this notice must be updated to describe the actual vendors and processing before ads run. Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies or similar storage and prior visits to this or other sites to select ads. Google’s advertising privacy information and personalization controls are linked below. These are explanations of a possible future configuration, not a statement that Google advertising is active now.

Consent before future advertising

A future advertising configuration must address regional requirements before loading advertising code. Google requires a certified consent-management platform integrated with the IAB TCF for personalized advertising in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Other regional privacy choices must also be assessed. The current application does not present a pretend consent banner or treat continuing to browse as advertising consent.
